Baby-faced heart-throb Zac Efron has shed his teen spirit for a far more mature, career-focused edge. IT WAS the hardest phone call of his life. Buoyed by the global success of the Disney High School Musical phenomenon, Zac Efron was poised for an easy kill. All he had to do was say “yes” to the remake of Footloose. It would net him a lazy $10 million, be a sure-fire hit and establish him as a stand-alone marquee name. It was a no-brainer. And everybody expected him to do it, especially his HSM director Kenny Ortega, who was set to helm the film. But Efron wanted to run his own race, be his own man. He’d already signalled as much with his self-spoofing appearances on Saturday Night Live, Robot Chicken and Entourage. So, mid-2009, he called Ortega and said what nobody wanted to hear. “It was a very hard decision,” Efron recalls. “It was one of the first times I’ve ever, in my life, just . . .” He trails off, then pauses. Efron, 22, is here promoting his new film, the quality weepie Charlie St Cloud. But right now, lightly bearded and shifting uncomfortably in a Sydney hotel room chair, his head is inside the moment. |

Zac Efron is developing his career post High School Musical through a careful choice of roles, including his latest in Charlie St. Cloud. THE one question Zac Efron gets asked more than any other is whether he feels as though he needs to prove himself. “As a result of getting involved at a young age, that’s sort of what the game has become now,” says the newly hirsute actor, in Australia to promote his romantic drama Charlie St. Cloud. Efron was hardly surprised, then, when his decision to sport a beard for the red-carpet premiere was interpreted by the world’s media as some kind of statement. “When it’s just, in fact, facial hair,” he says. But since the former High School Musical star has his sights set on making the difficult transition to credible dramatic actor, he is determined to weather such personal indignities with as much aplomb as he can muster. |

MEETING heart-throb Zac Efron yesterday was great news for young Olivia Wall. But it wasn’t the best news. “While it’s nice that Zac’s here to visit, we got the really good news yesterday that her cancer is in remission,” Shoshana Wall said. The High School Musical star made a low-key visit to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick and won the hearts of patients like Olivia, their parents and the staff. Efron, in Sydney for the premiere of his latest film Charlie St Cloud, spent an hour with the children in the cancer ward. The star was friendly and relaxed with six-year-old Olivia, an ardent Efron fan who has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The first-grader was happy to hug Efron and read her favourite picture book – High School Musical.
Asked by Efron who was her favourite characters, Olivia replied “Sharpay” (Ashley Tisdale), an answer that brought a few chuckles. “She’s one of my favourites too,” Eftron said. He leaves Sydney for Los Angeles today. Source: Daily Telegraph |

ZAC EFRON has promised to strip naked in a film. Suffering a bit of a hot flush, ladies? Well don’t get your fans out just yet. The 22-year-old baby-faced hunk Zac Efron will only do it if he gets, well, a bit porky. That’s one packet of pies coming in his direction from us then… The Hollywood star said: “For the right role I would probably do almost anything. I think I would go quite far.” When asked if he would be prepared to bare all, he said: “It would be funny to become fat first and then get naked in front of the camera.” Don’t worry Zac – we’ll still be watching. And maybe drooling. A little. The High School Musical heart throb also revealed that he hasn’t let fame go to his head. He said: “When girls scream it’s not an acknowledgment you should let get to your head. I don’t come home at night thinking I’m heaven-knows-who just because they start screaming. “When I work hard for something it’s easier to accept the acknowledgment for that.” Zac has been in a relationship with his fellow Disney co-star Vanessa Hudgens since 2005. He is slated to star in the title role of the live-action adaptation of the Jonny Quest cartoons. Source: OK Magazine |

Zac Efron is hoping to land a cameo appearance in Glee – he’d “absolutely” love to be a part of the hit show. The actor showed off his singing and dancing skills in the High School Musical franchise but moved on to more serious roles, with starring parts in Me and Orson Welles and Charlie St. Cloud. But Efron would have no qualms about returning to his musical roots – he’s hoping TV bosses reach out to him about a part. He tells Britain’s Live from Studio Five, “They haven’t asked me yet… I think it’d be really fun. They’re doing a great job of the show. Yeah, absolutely (I’d love a role).” Source: Wonderwall |

Zac Efron celebrated the UK premiere of his new movie by dancing to 80s songs and partying with sexy new girl band Beach Girl5 at London’s exclusive Mahiki nightclub. Zac Efron celebrated the UK premiere of his new movie by partying with a sexy girl band. The 22-year-old actor is currently in London promoting his latest film ‘Charlie St. Cloud’ and after thrilling his fans on the red carpet yesterday (16.09.10), Zac decided to let his hair down by dancing to some classic 80s songs at London’s exclusive Mahiki nightclub with new pop group Beach Girl5. Speaking at designer Bunmi Koko’s show at London Fashion Week, band member Brooke Adams – who is good friends with Zac’s girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens – exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “We’re over in London for five weeks and we love it here. Last night we got to go partying with Zac after the premiere of his movie as I’m really good friends with him and Vanessa so he invited us to go out with him. We went to Mahiki and had such a great time. We danced to some 80s music and just had fun, but we’re all a little delicate today! And Zac just loved all of the other girls and he really likes our music as well.” Brooke – who is joined in the group by Mandy Jiroux, Dominique Domingo, Noreen Juliano, and Laura New – also revealed she expects to be bridesmaid when Zac and Vanessa eventually get married, although she doesn’t think it will be time soon. She said: “I’d love to be part of the wedding party but I don’t think they will be getting married soon as they’re both so young. But they are really happy together and they’ve been an item for over five years, which is a long time. I think they’re meant to be though and they’re two of the nicest people you could meet.” Beach Girl5 are currently on a tour of the UK before returning to their native America and will release their debut single in January.
